let your loins be girded

Christ said,

“Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning;”

Luke 12:35-38

What does it mean to gird your loins?
In the Middle East most people would ware robs to completely cover their bodies from the sun. To have your loins girded meant be ready for battle. The general meaning is to be ready at all times. Do not wait until the last moment. This is not the only time Christ uses the phase. Christ told many parables about being ready for the coming of the Lord. Parable of the Ten Virgin. Loins be Girded

Death Bed Repentance
Many Christians make the mistake of thinking they can wait for repentance until the very end. In this same chapter Christ tells another parable.

“The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully. And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.”

“But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?”

“So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”

(Luke 12:16-21)

Here Christ explains that waiting to the end make you an FOOL!
