Understanding the Abrahamic Covenant
The Abrahamic covenant is summarized by three main promises: The 3 Three “P’s”
- Posterity (Seed): Abraham would become a great nation, with descendants as numerous as the stars.
- Promised Land: Abraham’s descendants would inherit the land of Canaan (Palestine).
- Priesthood (Blessing): Abraham would have the gospel, hold the priesthood, and through his lineage, all families of the earth would be blessed.

Posterity (Seed)
To Abraham this was a personal reference to him having children, something that Abraham and Sarah struggled with. It was also a promise that Abraham’s line would always be found on the Earth.
But in a spiritual sense it represented Eternal Life and Eternal Progression. That extends into the Heavens. That his seed and all those under The Covenant would be Everlasting Life
Promised Land
To Abraham to have his own land. A land that his people would inherit, a place to live and be prosperous. But in a Spiritual sense this was a promise of a place in Heaven. Also an inheritance in the Heavens. It is clear in the scriptures that we can be joint-heirs with Christ.
- Romans 8:14-17, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.”
- 1 Peter 1:4, “To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,”
- John 1:12, “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God,”
- 1 John 3:1-3, “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.”
- 1 Corinthians 15:49, And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.
Priesthood (Blessing)
God told Abraham that through him all the world would be blessed. To Abraham this was a blessing and a promise that God was on his side and the side of his children, “I will curse them that curse you and bless them that bless you.”
But this extended far behold Abraham.
- Through the line of Abraham we have the Priesthood (Blessing, covenants, Prophets)
- Through Abraham seeds we receive all the Scriptures (The Word of God).
- Ultimately, through Abraham line comes the Messiah, Jesus Christ. And through Christ all the world is blessed and receives Salvation.
Through the ministry of his seed, “all the families of the earth [would] be blessed, even with the blessings of the Gospel, which are the blessings of salvation, even of life eternal.”
